Today is the third anniversary of the death of the great Pope John Paul II. While we pray for the repose of his soul, we also pray God, if it be His will, to have his holiness recognized by the Church, that he be raised to the honours of the altars. Here is the prayer that I composed for this purpose back in 2005:

(Karol Józef Wojtyła)

Born 18th May 1920 (Wadowice, Poland)
Baptised 20th May 1920
Ordained Priest 1st November 1946
Ordained Bishop 28th September 1958
Appointed Archbishop of Kraków 13th January 1964
Created Cardinal 26th June 1967
Elected Pope 16th October 1978
Entered eternal life 2nd April 2005

Jesus Christ, Incarnate Word, we praise and thank you for the triumph of your grace in the life and work of your servant Pope John Paul. Move us by your Holy Spirit to imitate the virtues and follow the teachings of so great a Pontiff. By his intercession, grant us the favour we request, if it be in accordance with your will. May he speedily be canonized, for the building up of your Church, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

V/. Pray for us, John Paul the Great.
R/. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory be…
