My Soul Yearns for Thee in the Night... (Is. xxvi, 9a)

As the watchman looks for the morning, so do we long for Thee, O Christ.
Come with the dawning of the day, and make Thyself known in the Breaking of the Bread:

Within the pure oblation,
Beneath the outward sign,
Through that His operation,
The Holy Ghost Divine,
Lies hid the Sacred Body,
Lies hid the Precious Blood
Once slain, now ever glorious,
Of Christ our Lord and God.

(V.S.S. Coles, "We pray Thee, Heavenly Father", 2nd version, 3rd stanza.)
