Beer and Pizza

Nothing so good as having a pint or two or maybe more with a Catholic friend, and discussing all the worries of the Church and the world... and then, cold pizza and some science fiction on television at home afterward. It put me much in mind of happy days with friends and drinking companions back in Perth, and bodes well for settling back into Tasmania. (Speaking of which, that which we imbibed - the local Boag's Wizard Smith English Ale - is to be recommended. A chocolatier here in town even makes chocolates infused with it.)

As Belloc put it,

Wherever the Catholic sun doth shine,
There's always laughter and good red wine.
At least I've always found it so.
Benedicamus Domino!

Now, I must see about Vespers...

Alas I do miss the good days drinking with a good feed. On the plus side Chimay is exceptionally cheap over here.

The pizza is also plenty available. But rather lacking in lashings of meat.

Look forward to catching up.

Me too!

Cheap Chimay - now that's something important to know.

(Though after sleeping badly last night - the usual effects of alcohol on my system - I do feel a little the worse.)

As Paul told me, wasn't it convenient for C.S. Lewis to be able to drink 4 pints every day AT LUNCH before going back to his studies, and for Belloc to customarily down 2 bottles of red wine a day - this being the level of consumption to which they were inured. Of course, Lewis' brother was an alcoholic...

(Tolkien thought Lewis rather incorrigible for halving his lunchtime consumption to two pints during Lent, while claiming it to be a penance!)

I'll add mny Amen to Michael's lament, though Josh I do plan to make a trip to Tassie at the end of year with possible stops in Launceston and Melbourne.
