I'm about to take up the Breviary and pray First Vespers of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady.
Last year I wrote a rather long post on this feast, to which I refer interested readers.
זמרו משכיל • zammerû maśkîl • ψάλατε συνετως • psallite intellegenter • canite erudite • sing ye wisely • chantez vous avec intelligence • lobsinget ihm klüglich • sing ye praises with understanding
Sicut enim majus est illuminare quam lucere solum, ita majus est contemplata aliis tradere quam solum contemplari.
Where orthodoxy is optional, orthodoxy will sooner or later be prohibited.

I've been travelling all day, so I haven't had a chance to pray my Breviary... and today of all days! I feel like such a complete heel!
We do what we can, not what we can't. I sometimes suspect that having that sentiment, lifting up one's heart to the Lord in desire for heavenly things, is more pleasing to God than reading great swathes of Office without devotion...
very true, Joshua. By the way, I've found your recent posts all very interesting; I just haven't been able to comment!
Thanks, Mark - I always appreciate feedback; my posts don't generally elicit much comment, but I really like it when they do.
